‹ The JournalOwnership, explained

The price is only the beginning of the budget.

The asking price is one part of ownership. Before comparing properties, request a written picture of recurring expenses and one-time costs for the specific home or parcel.

Make unknowns visible.

Ask for the HOA schedule and what it includes, insurance quotes, utilities, maintenance, management charges and any special assessments. For land, ask about road maintenance, utility connections and the professional work needed to establish permitted use. Do not fill missing fields with zero.

Check taxes against the official source.

DGII describes IPI as an annual tax on taxable real-estate holdings, with rules that differ for individuals and trusts and with exemptions. The correct treatment depends on the owner and property. Use the current official guidance and a qualified local adviser for your situation; a listing badge is not proof of exemption.

Primary source: DGII IPI guidance. Checked November 2, 2026. General information, not a personalized tax calculation.
